Chiefs WR Rashee Rice files for bankruptcy, claims he owes over $3.45M in debts

Rashee Rice, a wide receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs, has filed for bankruptcy in federal court, citing debts exceeding $3.45 million. The filing took place in the Northern District of Texas, where Rice reported that over $2.1 million of his debts stem from various civil lawsuits. These lawsuits include claims related to a high-speed multicar accident in Dallas and allegations of repeated assaults by an ex-girlfriend.

In his bankruptcy documents, Rice disclosed personal assets totaling $677,054, with $421,825 categorized as deferred compensation. He reported having only $13,640 in his checking accounts and indicated that he rents his residence, owning no property. The bankruptcy filing is under Chapter 7, which allows individuals facing financial difficulties to liquidate non-exempt assets to pay creditors. Rice's largest creditor is owed nearly $980,000 from a civil settlement linked to the crash, and he is contesting several debts associated with ongoing litigation.
