Sources: Liberty not retaining coach Chris DeMarco after 1 year at helm

Chris DeMarco will not continue as head coach of the New York Liberty after just one season, according to sources. The decision follows the team's elimination from the playoffs in the semifinals, where DeMarco had expressed confidence in returning for the next season. However, key players did not provide strong support for his return when asked about their expectations for the coaching staff.

The Liberty are now on the lookout for their third head coach in as many years, marking a significant shift under general manager Jonathan Kolb. DeMarco's tenure was marked by challenges, including injuries to key players and a rocky start to the season. Despite winning the Commissioner's Cup and making the playoffs, the team struggled with consistency, leading to questions about DeMarco's coaching decisions during critical moments in the postseason. This coaching vacancy is part of a broader trend in the WNBA, with the Los Angeles Sparks also seeking a new head coach.
