Sources: Cubs decline $7.5M option for pitcher Colin Rea
The Chicago Cubs have opted not to exercise a $7.5 million contract option for pitcher Colin Rea for the upcoming season. Rea, who is 35 years old, has made a total of 46 starts for the team over the last two years, alternating between starting and relief roles.
In his two seasons with the Cubs, Rea ranked second in innings pitched. Last year, he recorded an 8-8 record with a 4.34 ERA over 137 innings, primarily serving as a reliever after the team acquired new starting pitchers. Rea's career includes time with the San Diego Padres, Miami Marlins, and Milwaukee Brewers, and he will receive a $1 million buyout as part of his contract.
