Rangers CF Evan Carter has hip surgery, likely to miss start of season
Evan Carter, the Texas Rangers' primary center fielder, underwent surgery on his right hip and is not expected to be ready for the beginning of the upcoming season. The procedure, performed by Dr. William Robertson, addressed a labral issue and hip impingement that likely affected Carter during the previous season. Team president Chris Young noted that Carter had been experiencing discomfort, which was initially thought to be muscular, but further testing led to the surgical decision.
Carter, who made his MLB debut in 2023 and contributed to the Rangers' World Series championship, had a challenging start to his career with multiple injuries in subsequent seasons. Despite his struggles, Young expressed optimism about Carter's recovery, anticipating a full return to play. With Carter sidelined, the Rangers will need to consider their options for center field, as Ezequiel Duran and Wyatt Langford filled in during his absence last season. Additionally, the team is undergoing coaching changes, with some staff members not returning for the next season.
