MLB offseason buzz: Intel on Skubal, free agency, trade rumors

The MLB offseason has officially begun, with free agency starting today. Teams are now free to sign players, and the focus is on top free agent Tarik Skubal. He is considered the standout player in this free agency class, with expectations that he will secure a deal before the December 1 lockout. The Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets are seen as the primary contenders for his signature, while the Chicago Cubs are also interested but may be hesitant about the financial commitment required.

In addition to Skubal, several other free agents are generating interest, including Michael King and Nick Martinez. The trade market is also heating up, with teams like the Tampa Bay Rays contemplating moves involving ace Drew Rasmussen. The offseason pace may be influenced by the looming lockout, reminiscent of the frenzied activity seen in 2021, although executives perceive this year's free agent class as weaker. Overall, the next few weeks are expected to bring significant movement as teams seek to bolster their rosters.
