Mexico City Grand Prix: Lewis Hamilton takes first Ferrari pole, Kimi Antonelli in fifth
Lewis Hamilton has secured his first pole position with Ferrari for the upcoming Mexico City Grand Prix, marking his first such achievement in over three years. He narrowly outpaced Mercedes driver George Russell by just 0.009 seconds during qualifying. Hamilton's teammate, Charles Leclerc, will start from third, while Red Bull's Max Verstappen will begin in fourth. Kimi Antonelli, who is in contention for the drivers' title, finished fifth despite struggling for pace.
Hamilton's latest pole position brings his career total to 105, breaking his own record, and he becomes the oldest polesitter since Mario Andretti in 1982. Antonelli will move up to fourth on the grid due to Verstappen's one-place penalty. He can clinch the championship if he finishes ninth or higher, regardless of the race outcomes for Hamilton or Russell. Meanwhile, McLaren's Lando Norris will start sixth, and his teammate Oscar Piastri will begin in thirteenth after being eliminated in Q2. The Mexico City Grand Prix is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. ET on Sunday.
