Mexico City Grand Prix: Kimi Antonelli to miss media day with viral illness
Kimi Antonelli will not attend media day prior to the Mexico City Grand Prix due to a viral infection. The 20-year-old driver is on the verge of becoming the youngest champion in Formula 1 history, needing to finish ninth or better in the upcoming race to secure the title. The FIA has allowed him to skip media obligations to focus on recovery ahead of the race weekend, which includes two practice sessions on Friday.
Mercedes has expressed confidence that Antonelli will return in time for the on-track activities. The driver has had a successful season, winning nine races in 2026, and is close to clinching his first championship after a strong performance at the United States Grand Prix. Additionally, Valtteri Bottas from Cadillac will also miss media duties due to illness, but his team is optimistic about his participation in the rest of the weekend's events.
