Liberty coach Chris DeMarco is out: Next candidates for New York

The New York Liberty have decided to part ways with head coach Chris DeMarco after just one season. This marks the franchise's third coaching change in as many years, following the departure of Sandy Brondello in September 2025. DeMarco, who joined the Liberty after a lengthy stint with the Golden State Warriors, faced a challenging season that included a playoff appearance but ended with disappointing results.

Despite winning the Commissioner's Cup and making it to the playoffs, the Liberty's performance fell short of expectations, leading to DeMarco's dismissal. The team finished with a 26-18 record, which was their worst since acquiring star players Breanna Stewart and Jonquel Jones. The Liberty's management is now tasked with finding a new head coach, with potential candidates including experienced former NBA assistants and those familiar with women's basketball, as they aim to improve their standing in the league.
