Emilio Pagan declines $10M player option for 2027 with Reds
Emilio Pagan, the closer for the Cincinnati Reds, has opted to decline his $10 million player option for 2027, making him a free agent. This decision comes as the Reds also declined mutual options for third baseman Eugenio Suarez and right-hander Pierce Johnson, both of whom can now explore free agency as well.
Pagan, who had a successful season with 25 saves in 28 opportunities, faced some challenges this year, including a stint on the injured list due to a hamstring strain. Suarez, who played 125 games, contributed significantly with 26 home runs and 74 RBIs, despite dealing with his own injury issues earlier in the season. Johnson also had a solid year in relief but was affected by elbow inflammation that kept him out for a period.
