Crystal Palace appeal over Jean-Philippe Mateta red card rejected

Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta will face a three-match suspension following the rejection of the club's appeal regarding his red card. The incident occurred during a recent Premier League match against Tottenham, where Mateta was sent off in the 13th minute for a late challenge on Micky van de Ven after initially receiving a yellow card, which was changed to red following a VAR review.

The Football Association confirmed that an independent regulatory commission found no grounds for the appeal, dismissing claims of wrongful dismissal and excessive punishment. As a result, Mateta will miss upcoming matches against Liverpool, Coventry, and Hull. Crystal Palace is currently struggling in the Premier League, sitting in 18th place and having lost their last three games without scoring any goals, which has put pressure on head coach Pierre Sage.
