Colton Herta's F1 move delayed by bizarre superlicence error at Mexico City GP
Colton Herta's anticipated move to Formula 1 with Cadillac has been delayed due to a misunderstanding regarding his superlicence points. At the Mexico City Grand Prix, Herta believed he had accumulated 39 of the 40 points required to race, but it was revealed he only had 38. This means he must complete an additional 100 kilometers in free practice during the upcoming Brazilian Grand Prix to meet the necessary criteria.
The confusion stemmed from a miscommunication involving Cadillac, the FIA, and IndyCar's official website, which incorrectly listed Herta's finishing position in the 2025 standings. The FIA initially checked the IndyCar website and found Herta ranked sixth, but it was later corrected to show him in seventh place, affecting his point total. Herta has been working towards this goal after a challenging season in Formula 2, and while he is expected to secure the required points, any mishap in Brazil could complicate his path further. Cadillac remains committed to promoting Herta, having invested significantly in his career.
