Cole Palmer should have been sent off for Mateus Fernandes clash - KMI panel
A panel assessing Premier League officiating has concluded that Cole Palmer of Chelsea should have received a red card for his clash with Tottenham's Mateus Fernandes during their match on October 24. The Key Match Incidents (KMI) panel determined that Palmer's actions in the 70th minute were violent and warranted a straight red card, disagreeing with the on-field referee's decision by a vote of 3-2. Despite this, the panel unanimously supported the VAR's choice not to recommend a review of the incident.
Additionally, the KMI panel discussed a separate incident in the Aston Villa versus Manchester City match, where they believed a penalty should have been awarded for a foul by Elliot Anderson. While three members felt VAR made the right call by not intervening, two disagreed, citing a clear error. The panel noted that the current season's officiating has seen a high accuracy rate for on-field decisions, with VAR intervention further increasing the correctness of calls.
