Central Michigan's Andy Bronkema on leave; Raymoan McAfee named interim coach

Central Michigan University has placed men's basketball coach Andy Bronkema on leave, with no explanation provided. In his absence, Raymoan McAfee has been appointed as the interim coach, just one day before the Chippewas' home opener against Division III Alma.

Bronkema had recently led the team to an 83-78 victory over UL Monroe in their season opener. He joined Central Michigan in 2025 after a successful tenure at Division II Ferris State, where he won a national title. McAfee, who has been with Bronkema since his hiring, has experience as an assistant coach at Wayne State and has been recognized for his ability to build strong relationships with players. The athletic director expressed confidence in McAfee's leadership as the team moves forward.
