Astros hire Randy Flores as new general manager

The Houston Astros have appointed Randy Flores as their new general manager, following the departure of Dana Brown in August. Flores, who previously served as the assistant general manager for the St. Louis Cardinals, is the 15th individual to hold this position in the franchise's history. His hiring comes at a time when the Astros are also in search of a new manager after Joe Espada's contract was not renewed following the team's early exit in the playoffs.

Flores has an extensive background in baseball, having joined the Cardinals' front office in 2015 and contributing significantly over the past decade. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity with the Astros and looks forward to contributing to the team's success, acknowledging the organization's strong winning tradition. The Astros plan to formally introduce Flores at a news conference on Monday at Daikin Park.
